Milllinery Workshops / Classes

Beverley runs workshops and courses for you to learn traditional millinery techniques, including felt hats, flower making, French beaded flowers, wedding and Ascot hats, Sinamay techniques and fascinator making.

All in person classes are held at our Farnham town centre studio , however teaching at other locations or colleges can be discussed.

Our 1-2-1 online tuition is all conducted via zoom and our pre recorded courses are sent out as computer files for you.

The classes can also make fantastic gifts for creative loved ones with our workshop gift vouchers.

Please note: We do not offer workshops from April through to End of July, due to our busy season. Outside of these months, we can offer full day workshops on Wednesdays and Fridays. Evening workshops can take place any weekday evening.

Millinery Workshop Reviews

‘I just wanted to say thank you for a fantastic Monday, I thoroughly enjoyed the day and I have taken so much from it. I can’t wait to start making some of my own creations’ -Paula

‘I signed up to a course of 1-2-1 sessions with Beverley as a taster to Millinery. Her enthusiasm is infectious; I am now hooked. Beverley is a master of her trade and a first-rate teacher. Whilst she had a set course syllabus in mind she was incredibly flexible, allowing me the space to inject my own creativity. She is extremely patient and constantly imparts her knowledge during your time with her. The sessions were busy, crammed full of information and new skills, but above all else fantastic fun. Beverley has a teaching style that instantly puts you at ease, she felt more like a good friend and is totally devoted to ensuring you get the maximum out of each class. She is incredibly generous with her time and the level of information she shares with you. As well as the actual technique of Millinery I learnt so much about Millinery in the commercial world. I thought I would come away with some basic skills I could build on. I did not expect to learn as much as I did or create two hats (which friends and family could not believe I actually made!). I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending a course with Beverley whatever your level and skill set.’ -Dawn

‘I just wanted to say a huge thank you for yesterday, we really enjoyed every minute and to have an actual, wearable creation to take home was amazing!
I would really recommend this day to anyone interested in having a great day out with a friend.’ -Maggie

‘I just wanted to say very BIG THANK you for yesterday. I had a fabulous time (Never thought I would come away with a very wearable hat!!) It must be frustrating for you to watch fumbling fingers take an absolute age to do things that you can do in seconds, but you are fantastically patient. And a great teacher. Wish I could do more! But I guess I’d need to find a reason to wear more hats…… Anyway, thank you so much’ –Charlotte

2 friends for £135 extra for a full day or £95 extra for an evening

We do ask that the same millinery discipline is learnt by all participants in a class, so that teaching and timings can be coherent.

What can you make in these sessions?

In reality, you can make whatever you like in these sessions, but for a rough guide of how long things will take here are some ideas:

Evening session- This will be enough time to make a feather fascinator, learn how to block fabrics for a hat or cocktail hat base (but not finish hat base or trimming) and learn about how sinamay, straws or felt works as a fabric.

Full day Tuition -this will be enough time to complete a cocktail hat, small winter felt hat with simple trimmings or silk or French beaded flowers

1.5 days Tuition- This will be enough time to make a full hat from start to finish including trims (Will include some stitching homework between sessions to complete in 1.5 days tuition)

We recommend getting in contact to discuss what you wish to make in advance of your sessions so Beverley can best advise what will be possible within the time frames and with your existing skill set and also to make sure we have the best materials/colours in stock ahead of your sessions.
